Loss of atrial pacing in a patient with a dual-chamber permanent pacemaker: What is the mechanism?
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. Atrial oversensing due to lead integrity failure (fracture, insulation failure) or connector problems between the header and the lead. 2. Atrial lead displacement: no evidence of microor macrodisplacement was found on chest radiography. 3. Asynchronous mode of pacing (VOO) due to magnet or programming: device interrogation ruled out this differential diagnosis. The device was fully functional in DDDR mode.

Role of permanent pacing to prevent atrial fibrillation: science advisory from the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology (Subcommittee on Electrocardiography and Arrhythmias) and the Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Interdisciplinary Working Group, in collaboration with the Heart Rhythm Society.
This advisory summarizes the current database on pacing modalities and algorithms used to prevent and terminate atrial fibrillation (AF). On the basis of the evidence indicating that ventricular pacing is associated with a higher incidence of AF in patients with sinus node dysfunction, a patient who has a history of AF and needs a pacemaker for bradycardia should receive a physiological pacemak...
متن کاملPacemaker syndrome during managed ventricular pacing mode: what is the mechanism?
A 51-year-old woman underwent implantation of a dual chamber pacemaker 10 years ago, for symptomatic intermittent second-degree type II AV block. She remained free of symptoms during follow-up. Recently, she underwent pacemaker replacement because of battery depletion (Adapta ADDR01, Medtronic Inc., Minneapolis, MN, USA). Given intact AV conduction at the time of intervention, the Managed Ventr...
متن کاملEarly complications of permanent pacemaker implantation: no difference between dual and single chamber systems.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the incidence of intraoperative and early postoperative complications (up to two months after implant) of endocardial permanent pacemaker insertion in all patients under-going a first implant at a referral centre. METHODS Prospective evaluation of all endocardial pacemaker implantation procedures performed from April 1992 to January 1994 carried out by completion of stan...
متن کاملDual chamber cardiac pacing in children: Single chamber pacing dual chamber sensing cardiac pacemaker or dual chamber pacing and sensing cardiac pacemaker?
BACKGROUND Dual chamber pacemakers (single chamber pacing dual chamber sensing cardiac pacemaker (VDD) and dual chamber pacing and sensing cardiac pacemaker (DDD)) are being used frequently in children and adolescents. The aim of this study was to verify the safety and performance of the VDD and DDD pacing systems, and to evaluate the differences between two pacing modes with regard to atrial s...
متن کاملImplantation of a passive fixation dual chamber pacemaker in a patient with persistent left superior vena cava.
Electrode instability and displacement have been reported in patients who underwent pacemaker implantation via persistent left superior vena cava. An active-fixation system, and sometimes epicardial pacing, is necessary to maintain pacing stability. We report the case of a 76-year-old man with a left superior vena cava who required dual-chamber permanent pacing. Passive-fixation atrial and vent...
